“His chest rubbed against mine, back and forth, with each rock of our fused hips. My nipples tightened. I gasped. What the hell was wrong with me? This was Adam. I couldn’t— “It’s time,” he whispered into my ear.”
Devastated by her boyfriend’s infidelity, and the end of their two-year relationship, Mel decides that there is only one way to move past her heartbreak – experiencing her first night of no-strings-attached passion.
To fulfill her plan, Mel decides to spend her 30th birthday at Dance Ardor, one of Chicago’s hottest nightclubs, and one with a reputation for commitment-free sexual encounters.
When her best friend, Adam, insists on joining her for her birthday celebration, Mel is disappointed by his interference. Though he is a handsome firefighter, nicknamed The Arsonist for his fiery sexual trysts, Mel is convinced that Adam is only a friend and that his presence will undermine her plan for sexual adventure.
Adam, however, has a brazen surprise in store for Mel – one that will change the course of their relationship, forever. Fully aware of Mel’s plan to shed her inhibitions, Adam makes her an unexpected offer – allow him to provide her with the sexual pleasure she seeks – and the love she deserves.
Temped by a Kiss is a relentlessly sexy, friends-turned-lovers story. Well written and excellently paced, Tempted by a Kiss slowly turns up the heat between Mel and Adam, leaving the reader wanting more until the very end.
Though this story is categorized as an erotic romance, I especially enjoyed the sweetness and sincerity of the love story told by Ms. Durand, all while never losing sight of the sexual chemistry between the main characters.
Although the story comes to a very happy ending for our heroine, I do wish Tempted by a Kiss was just a little bit longer. Without revealing the ending, the story concludes with a tender agreement made between Adam and Mel, to be fulfilled the following evening.
While it is still satisfying to see the narrative end with their mutual expression of love, it would have been especially powerful to end the story with the fulfillment of their promise. I do not believe that this extension would have thrown off the balance of romantic love and sex in the story and, at only 28 pages, there is room to prolong the narrative while still crafting a tightly-written novella.
That said, this is a relatively minor criticism of an excellent work of short, erotic fiction and I thoroughly enjoyed reading and reviewing this story.
Thoughtfully written, well paced and meticulously edited, I would recommend Tempted by a Kiss to any reader seeking a short, sexy work with a tender love story at its heart.
